About the area
New Town, Edinburgh
The New Town area includes Princes Street and George Street with all it's upscale shops (including Harvey Nichols), restaurants and nightspots. Largely upscale residential, it encompasses the area just to the North of Edinburgh's principal shopping area and comprises a mix of grand townhouses and large tenement apartments. Due to its very central proximity, this is a sought after residential area in the City and attracts some of the higher values in real estate. There are good local amenities and easy access to many of the City's restaurants, bars and night spots (too many to mention). In the heart of the New Town, try 'Kays Bar' on Jamaica Street and 'The Cumberland Bar' (on Cumberland Street!) which are real ale institutions and also great for lunchtime fodder - you might want to try to find the 'Star Bar' on Northumberland Street if you're looking to explore! For those who like to walk, the village of Stockbridge is within easy access and is a favourite spot to explore with locals.
